Landscaping Thriving Landscapes

There's A Lot More To Floriculture Than The Beautiful Look Of Flowers

SKB is geared up for a full Fall season on your properties. You probably have seen the marketing slogan "Fall is for Planting" at your local nursery. This is a marketing hook used by the industry for many years. Unlike a lot of slogans that promise much and deliver little, this one happens to be true. Please read our current newsletter for more information as to why Fall is for planting and generally a good time for your landscape? "Weather" or not you know the answer now is the time for your landscape company to revitalize the plants and soil from the long summer drought and water restrictions. Did you notice an immediate difference in the appearance of your landscape after this last front of rain moved through the area? Everything was softer and greener and looked to be thriving. Irrigation just cannot deliver the same results as rainwater does. Lightning somehow charges up the soil to the point nitrogen fixated in the soil becomes agitated and is utilized by the plants. Seed pods are sufficiently softened by the rains of the season to allow ripening and germination of our overseeding operations. Hopefully it is obvious that rain is a vital key to a thriving landscape, something unfortunately out of the landscapers control.

What is in our control? SKB crews are or will be busy on your properties. Those with a cool season turf are being aerated and overseeded. There might be a two week period where we cannot cut the turf because of the germinating seed. Our machines might crush the tender shoots or literally rip them out of the ground. We want everybody to stay off of your turf during that time. We are managing the coming dormancy of the warm season grasses. It is best not to encourage new growth at this time. Our fertilization program is designed to fortify the grass for the winter to improve the cold tolerance of the turf. We will be busy removing leaves as they accumulate on your property. On the larger properties we will utilize specialty crews equipped with vacuum trucks to remove heavy accumulations. After the leaves have fallen we will commence the winter season mulching. Aesthetically pleasing as it is, mulching is necessary to retain soil moisture and protect the plant roots from the cold winter air. As a part of the mulching we redefine the softscape edges. Other specialty crews will be deep pruning trees and shrubs to their intended use in the landscape. We only shear new growth and never to form what we call the "meatball effect", plants in ball shapes and such. Seasonal color is a huge part of your curb appeal not only for the colder seasons but for your Spring display when Atlanta is at itıs peak of natural beauty. The marketing department will be entering several of your properties into contests on a national, regional, state and local level. Our goal is not to win awards but to please our customer and to please ourselves with our effort. But they are good to have. SKB managed landscapes have won numerous awards with the latest being the Georgia International Plaza being named a Top Ten Turf in America by the Briggs and Stratton Corporation.

This is all done in conjunction with the routine maintenance crews that weekly service your property. We appreciate your business and invite your scrutiny of our work. If we may be of any assistance please do not hesitate to call.
